Kloof SPCA - Shocking

Letter written 26/02/2018 to the NSPCA - to date there has been no response from SPCA Kloof

it is with great sadness that i write this letter and it is my hope that you would be able to intervene.

on the 12 feb i went to work at 7.30 leaving my dogs sleeping inside, my son woke up just after, let the dogs out to do their business and hopped into the shower. when he got out he called them but they were gone.

it had rained the night before and the soil had washed down the bank creating a big enough gap for them to get out an frolick in the bushes. this is where our nightmare began.

my sons went searching in the bushes to no avail, thereafter they went into the road calling and searching and asking neighbors. i came home about 2 asked them if they found them but they had not. we then started calling again and again we heard barking but couldn't see them, my son went up to the road and saw a van, he assumed it was the police as our road has quite a few incidences of housebreak and hijackings, so thought it best not to go down.

we assumed that they had gone to deep into the bushes and maybe down to the river and hoped they would return by morning but they never did.

my son then phoned the spca, someone in the neighborhood had phoned the spca for strays and this person had signed them off to the spca. why when the van heard them calling did they not speak to them, ask what they were looking for

i then phoned the spca to confirm if they were there and ask for the bill. i was then told that they would have to work it out, by wednesday morning i still had not received a bill, my sons then went up to go and identify if it is indeed our dogs and to collect the bill.

the bill was a whopping 3775.00 when they asked to see the dogs they were refused. they had to make a fuss to see the dogs.

i then phoned the spca to make arrangements to pay 50 percent and then pay the balance off but they absolutely refused saying that if i have to pay off in all likely hood they would not receive the balance. i had to come up with the total amount plus the extra incurred cost of having them there this would now be close to 9000.

the saturday morning i managed to arrange a lift to kloof spca but the person was delayed and only got to me at 12.30. i immediately phoned the spca i was told they close at 12. requested that they remain open as i am on my way to pay and collect the dogs. when i arrived at 12.30 they were closed, i had to walk around and call for somebody. there was lady that responded she said they were closed i explained that i had phoned she then said she would call an inspector. i was hopeful

when she arrived she asked me what i want and why i.m standing there. i explained that i was there for the dogs. she then said they were closed. i said that i know. i did ask for them to remain open. she then said that they cant wait for people that cant read time i explained that i had to organize a lift her response to this was that if i cant afford a car i cant afford a dog and the same goes for a pensioner or a student. she was verbally abusive and very insulting.

i requested that even though the office is closed and i would have to come back monday please allow me to see them. once again i was refused, their excuse that everything is locked yet they were just inside. i then asked them what are they hiding

she then had an audacity to tell me that it is not my dogs as i have not claimed them i asked her how are they yours her response was that they are in care of spca so it is theirs. i told her that those dogs are mine. feeling very frustrated and angry we left.

prior to this drama i had spoken to a lady from bark angel to help me re-home the puppies but her car was out of order, she phoned to let me know she would now be able to collect them, i had to inform her that the mom dad and puppies were at spca and that i had been trying to get them back.

a lawyer affiliated with bark angel then went up, the spca then accused me that the dogs were in terrible condition, the one had a fracture that was never treated, skin was terrible and had worms etc.

they were not in terrible condition i have photos to prove that, i emailed the paid bill of the fracture that was treated, they were de-wormed before they landed at spca

i know for a fact that the puppies had no skin disease as the puppies i have and the ones re-homed were checked by a vet. surely if they were underfed or had skin disease both the vet and new owners would have said something.

they then agreed to release the now sick puppies to bark angel. they also made an agreement that i could pay 3000 of the 6000 and pay the balance off. i know believe they said this to waste time, by the time the lawyer got back to me it was to late to go up.

on tuesday morning i phoned to ask what time i could come and pay and collect dogs. i was now told that i would have to re adopt my dogs. great

friday a police friend went to speak on my behalf and find out what the balance is he was told the bill was 2700. he was also told that they so sick of the drama surrounding the dogs i must come get them.

once again i was only able to arrange transport for saturday morning, i phoned but was told i need to adopt them. i filled in the adoption forms,my daughter asked to see them and was refused. she had to beg to see them and was allowed to peek through a tiny hole. when she called them they went hysterical with excitement.

today an inspector named petrus came had a look was satisfied. he said he would have to speak to management. by 3 50 i had heard nothing so phoned them. my son had mentioned that we will be moving in 6 months this was now the new angle. even though i spent 700 fixing a fence it was now declined by management. i invited her to come look at the fence she said there was no need as she saw pictures and its not good enough. they had to see the new property. what would happen to my dogs in the interim

i was told i now had to pay 6300.00 in cash, still i have no detailed bill, the supposedly agreement of 50 percent and paying balance in installments was apparently never on the table. other facts my dogs had collars. yet when at the spca they had no collars what happened to it

none of the puppies that i re-homed nor the puppies with me had or have parvo yet the puppies at spca do. there is a post on kloof spca of parvo incidents a week before my dogs landed there.

i gave the puppies to bark angel, the lady had taken it to her vet, the spca then went to that vet and seized the dogs and expected her to foot the bill. were they then going to add that to my bill, today i had to sign a release form for the puppies.

the puppies that they seized as well as the 2 adult dogs now have kennel cough. why because they sleep on cold cement.

the spca motto is

Freedom from thirst, hunger and malnutrition. Freedom to express normal behaviour. Freedom from discomfort. Freedom from fear and distress Freedom from pain, injury or disease.

in the care of spca kloof our dogs have suffered fear, distress, discomfort and disease

for the past two weeks i have tried my utmost to get them home but have been blocked by the spca at each and every turn, where is the justice, how is this acting in the best interest of the animals

they refused that I pay 50% and balance in 3 instalments, yet they could vaccinate 60 animals plus give the owners dogfood and blankets. Even more frustrating, each and every day they had a different story and different bill. I have no idea if our pit bulls Zeus and Zaria are still alive.
