Just let my animal die???
On the 16/02/2015 at around 4pm just before they had to close my sister phoned the SPCA, asking advice and a bit of help that is what SPCA is there for right??? Oh No not Roodepoort they must be an exception. She asked for advice because her puppy urine is only blood. She contacted the SPCA because at the time she did not have money for a vet. This is the response she got \WE CANT HELP YOU BECAUSE WE LACK THE RESOURCES. WE ADVICE YOU GO TO A PRIVATE VETERINARIAN TO ASSIST. HONEYDEW IS NOT CONSIDERED AN IMPROVISED AREA THUS WE CANNOT PROVIDE HEALTHCARE"Really why in the **** are open"

The Roodepoort SPCAs main function is not as a veterinary practice. The SPCAs function is to educate the community on animal welfare issues and to prosecute blatant cases of animal abuse. Not all SPCAs have the luxury of a hospital. And those who do have veterinary hospitals its main purpose is to treat the animals which are in the care of the SPCA and to sterilize as many animals from the genuinely impoverished community as possible to prevent animal cruelty, our contribution to the community is to assist the indigent community with basic veterinary care. It is the owners responsibility to provide veterinary care for their pets.
The SPCA is a welfare organization. Should a child be injured or ill they are taken to a hospital. If the child is abused, the child welfare services step in. It is the same as with animals. A private veterinarian is to treat animals who have owners. Animal abuse is reported to the SPCA.
SPCAs are not government funded we survive on the generosity of the public.
