Hopeless, No care
****ed off at the way these so called animal *****s or so called SPCA Pietermaritzburg handle their business.
On the 13th of August 2022 whilst I was away from home my 2 dogs got into a fight amongst themselves in my yard, my neighbour had called the SPCA to help assist separating them, this is the first time this has ever happened with them, the spca removed them to have them treated, the Monday I went in as soon as they open to check up on the state of my pets, I was told that one had been seriously injured but was still stable I was then told I need to pay a deposit of R1000.00 rand which I did not mind doing, 2 days later I get a call to say that one of them did not make it, I had made peace with the passing of my dog Tyson. The next day I phoned they told me that they were going to send an inspector out to my place to make sure that the place was actually safe enough for my dog Chico to come home, which I had no issue with, inspector comes 3 days later whilst my yard was being cleaned out to do an inspection, walks around says nothing, comes back the next day to issue me with a warning cause the dogs bowls were dirty and was not happy that I had 2 chains for my dogs, which were only used in situations when I was not at home and people needed excess to my yard without being harmed, so I said to the inspector I will sort out his issues for him, he then told me that he would be back in 4 days to make sure all these things were taken care of. Thursday 01/09/2022 was the day he was suppose to return no show, sent a message, no response, phoned him no answer. Saturday I called, he said he would be there Monday, I told him my daughter would be home till 1:30pm, he said no problem I will be there first thing in the morning Monday. I get a phone call Monday morning 05/09/2022 from the manager at the SPCA telling me that my dog had broken the wall off his cage and killed a mum and her pup also injuring one of their workers who tried to pull him away, so I went over and was shown where the incident had taken place. The manager then take me through to show me an injured dog which my dog had attacked according to them, they then told me they put my dog down, this was done without my permission and was never taken to view my dog that they say they had put down that day. The manager tells me she is sorry for my loss and then tells me that I now need to pay the balance outstanding for the treatment given 😡😡😡.
Never once was shown any of my pets from the day they arrived there, so I think my dogs were both put down from the day they were there and I got fed a bull**** story in order for me to pay for absolutely nothing, be careful of these so called pet *****s, they don’t give a **** about you or your animals. To them these might be animals but to some of us these animals become part of our families.
The Management Committee of the Pietermaritzburg SPCA extend their sincere condolences on the tragic loss of Chico. From your correspondence it is evident that Chico was a much loved member of your family. To say we understand the grief the family is experiencing will be a disservice to the memory of Chico.
The wall between the 2 kennels collapsed, Chico jumped into the adjacent kennel and attacked the female in the next kennel. The female bit a staff member
Chico was returned to his kennel. Chico jumped back into the kennel and attacked the pups. Inspector Udesh Rajkumar must take full responsibility for the unnecessary death of Chico and the pups. He was the Senior staff member on the scene. It was his responsibility to ensure that the pups were removed or Chico moved to a secure kennel given the damaged wall.
The Mapstone family and Chico where let down, by Inspector Rajkumar on two fronts. Firstly; he did not ensure that the property met the requirements as per his Warning timeously. Chico was confined at the SPCA beyond necessary. Secondly, euthanizing Chico instead of moving him to a secure kennel;
We also apologise for the insensitivity of the Manager in not showing you Chico’s carcass giving you the opportunity for closure, but instead informing you that the outstanding balance needs to be settled. There is no outstanding balance.
We assure you that disciplinary action is being taken so that the SPCA does not have an occurrence of this tragic situation ever again.
