****ing Expensive
My dad is a pensioner. He went to the SPCA in Boksburg to find out how much it would cost to to sterlize two male dogs. How can it cost R1000 to sterlize 2 male dog when he gets a pension from the state???? Isnt it unfair that a pensionar should pay that much just for 2 dogs isnt the SPCA an NPO???? That get money from the state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To clarify, SPCAs are not funded in any way by the Government and rely solely on public donations in order to fulfill their main function which is preventing cruelty to animals by humans. This is done through education, investigating cruelty complaints and prosecuting offenders.
Where SPCAs are lucky to have the funds to employ a Vet they offer Almoning services to indigent persons in order to reduce the costs charged by private Vets. The service can in no way be free as the medication, services of the Vet and the care of the animal all cost money. These fees are to cover the cost of these items and not to make any profit.
Had your father gone to a private Vet he may have paid double or even triple the amount asked by the SPCA's Vet.
