Disappointed

Good day all. A few days ago,me and my husband took our 4 month old great danes to SPCA vereeniging because we are busy moving to a smaller house with a smaller yard so we thought we will give them to the spca for adoption. A day after we took them not even 12 hrs later we phoned them to ask if they put them up for adoption yet? The lady then told us "we put them down this morning,they weren't adapting well enough" and that she said very happy as if nothing is wrong with it.I told the lady working there that they were rescue dogs they are very scared so please be gentle with them but she didn't listen. And second how the hell do a dog adapt in less than 24 hrs? They didn't even give them a chance they just killed them? How is this better? Of i knew this was going to happen i would have looked for a home for them i never knew they just put animals down and for something as stupid as not adapting. I know that some people will think what am i crying about but is living breathing things. To me animals are not just animals, they have voices just not their own but they have our voices and i will shout if i have to.

Please dont take your animals to them i beg you look for another family for your pet on your own because spca will just kill them and i believe that every animal deserves a chance.

Dear Sharon We thank you for your post on HelloPeter. It is important that awareness is created around the euthanasia of animals. This is a sad reality none of us want to face or speak about. The fact is we take in over 11,000 animals a year. December is our busiest time of the year as people dump their animals at our SPCA. Their excuse is always they are either moving, cannot afford to look after them or they are going on holiday. Making the decision to euthanase an animal is not easy. In fact, it is one of the most difficult things to do. But the reality is our kennels are full and we have to make space for other animals. Each animal is individually assessed to see their suitability for adoption. Unfortunately, the pups your husband brought in was not suitable for adoption. They were extremely fearful of humans. In fact, the one puppy soiled all over our staff member. There are other dogs in our kennels that are more suitable for adoption than the pups brought in by your husband. For this reason, we had to make the difficult decision. It is unfortunate that your post is not factual, however we will not go into all the details. All we can ask is that you think twice about getting another animal as we do not want them to become a burden to someone else when you can no longer care for them.
