I have been giving monthly donations to the spca for years and follow and support the work done. I therefore took my dog to be spayed at your hospital in grassy park as i would rather my money go to your hard working staff that the overpriced/moneymaking private institutions. In terms of your code of conduct i trusted my dog to be well taken care of. The hospital also looked well maintained. I was mortified when I had to pick up my dog the next day and she was covered in hard faeces and smelling of it. For the faeces to dry up it means she was left like this for a long time. It resulted in her fur getting a small mat. I understand you have many animals to see to, you may be short staffed etc but these are not excuses for basic care. The dog is already in discomfort and you subject her to sleeping in her poo. My question is could the care giver not even rinse her for 5 mins before handing her to me? That is not too much to ask. Is it not unhygienic for faeces to be around a surgery site? Am i not entitled to receive my dog in the condition i brought her in? I was tasked with having to bath her without getting the stitches wet, even though i had given her a bath the night before knowing that you cant bath a dog during the healing process. It took about 20mins to soften the poo and pull it out of the tangled strands of fur. I spoke to Mitchell who advised me he was the supervisor and would talk to his staff. Get back to the basics SPCA! I will be stopping my donations to save the funds to make use of private institutions in future. I am very disappointed and highly upset.
