Boksburg SPCA prevents adaptation over rules or policies they can’t even share that are legal!
Letting people know as this is not mentioned anywhere on their websites and I am still waiting for Boksburg SPCA to send me the terms and conditions where it states I have to sterilised my own dog even thou the dog I would like to adopt will be sterilised! This is completely ridiculous, when I asked the questions of why I have to be forced when one dog is sterilised, they keep saying this is their policy but I cannot find this anywhere in their claimed policy. To make matters worse they said they would rather keen a dog in a cage for life then have them adopted. How ludicrous does this sound! Maybe they should be caged themselves instead of having the opportunity to run around and be loved by a family that actually wants a dog and to give that dog a loving home!!! I’ll no longer donate to the SPCA as it goes to show they just want the money to cage the poor animals then give them a loving home!!! I understand the inspection and affordability but seriously making a decision over sterilisation, how heartless can they be, wow. Poor dog stuck in a cage for God knows how long!

Ms Rooplal and her partner, Mr Pearson, wished to adopt a dog by the name of Abby from Boksburg SPCA. On 14 August 2025 they brought their dog, an intact male Retriever of about 9 years old, to do the meet and greet as per our adoption policy and rules. Mrs Beadon from our office made them aware that in terms of our rules their Retriever will have to be neutered, unless they can submit a veterinary report that provides reasons for not doing so. On this basis the meet and greet was done and the pre-home inspection referred to Randburg SPCA in whose area Ms Rooplal and her partner reside. On Thursday, 21 August 2025, Randburg SPCA indicated that the home inspection is approved provided the Retriever is neutered. Ms Rooplal’s partner was informed accordingly and advised to obtain a veterinary report if required.

The rules are periodically posted on social media and a copy is displayed in our Reception. We deny that any of our staff said that we rather keep animals in a cage than having them adopted. Ms Rooplal is disingenuous in trying to make out they were not aware of the policy and rules, they were informed from day 1 about this requirement and it was indicated what may be considered not to insist on strict compliance.

I cannot find your legal policy rules, policies terms and conditions. I didn’t get the email even thou I left my email, cellphone number and requested for this in writing! Again the public can see the ridiculous rule of the one dog would be sterilised and our male dog wouldn’t yet this means nothing to you people. I’m sure poor Abby is still waiting to be adopted, hopefully God willing someone has adopted her! Clearly you guys don’t understand anything about mental wellbeing for doggies. But it’s fine, we found the Animal Anti-Cruelty Legal, dogs actually look happier and well taken care off. We will be getting our new addition to the family from there. Like I said I won’t ever go back to the SPCA, the public can see for themselves what’s actually happening!

27 Aug 2025, 12:23PS, we were told that if we speak to the manager she could waiver the sterilisation. I could not get hold of her, seems like she’s never in the office. A large dog that is 9 years old must be sterilised just because you said so. Really now!
