Beware of dealing with SPCA Midrand - you must pay adoption fees - but you may not get the dog!

After going through all the paperwork, passing the adoption inspection, and paying fees for sterilization I got the call from SPCA Midrand to say that my dog is ready to pick up. During the phone call - I asked them clearly - If anything else is needed and will it be quick because I had minimal time due to job requirements and deadlines. They said: "Nothing else, just come and collect your dog." So I got there, waited for 30 min for vet approval, and went for another round of signatures and paperwork, and finally, I got my dog. Doggy still had a fresh wound after being sterilized.

And that is where the nightmare started!

Turned out my new dog had a car phobia, and two staff and I could not put him in a car for another 15-20 min. Then doggy started bleeding from a sterilization wound - and had to go back to the vet to stop the bleeding. After I told them that I just had to rush back to the work and that I will be back - that same vet that approved the adoption - accused me that my rush was the cause the of dog's bleeding, and basically canceled the adoption right there - on the ground that I am impatient. So, they misled me by saying that it will be quick, and then 1 hour later when I just had to leave for important work's meeting where I wasted other people's time in waiting - the lady vet threw defamatory statements at me and canceled the adoption contract on whimp. So, avoid SPCA Midrand - that's my advice to anyone who wants to adopt a pet!

Dear Mr Dragoisavac

As per email communications with you, we respectfully don’t agree with your allegations in terms of the events that occurred. Kindly note that our society prides ourselves in our honesty and integrity. We have investigated this matter and as always, have taken an unbiased approach. If our staff are in the wrong, we acknowledge this and do not shy away from the truth.
CCTV footage shows that you were only on our premises for 23 minutes from entry to exit. You proceeded to your vehicle after collecting the dog and made several attempts to get the dog into your vehicle yourself. Video footage shows the dog ***ering away. We are not accusing you of intentionally causing harm to the dog, but we are stating that your hurried reaction and impatience to get to you meeting was cause to the distress and the ripping of the stitches and that you should rather had made alternative arrangements if the day did not suite you. You told us to keep the dog as you rushed out of our gates and stated to our staff that you “could not lose your job over a dog”. Your adoption was not cancelled on a whim, and you were requested to contact us the following day to discuss the matter calmly, but you refused. We refute that fact that you accuse us of defamation. We have requested your banking details so that we may refund you, but to date this has not been received.
