Atrocious service SPCA Roodepoort Krugersdorp | Application to Adopt from SPCA Louis Trichardt - Alex

Good day,

I come to you as a fellow pet owner having owned various animals spanning from Chow Chows, Jack Russells, Poodles and bearded dragons to every other kind of pet imaginable. Our love for animals has been passed down over generations and we have always followed the principle of adopting and rescuing animals, rather than buying because we understand the plight of abandoned animals across our country and the world.

That being said, we have been looking for a friend for our 2 pets at home, namely our Chow and our baby Jack Russell. I have been searching on rescue sites, the SPCA and the like. While it would have been ideal for us to adopt in Gauteng, we came across Alex, a Chow boy at SPCA Louis Trichardt and instantly fell in love. We immediately contacted the team at SPCA Louis Trichardt and kicked off the adoption process.

I must applaud the team at SPCA Louis Trichardt, they were so kind, warm and helpful and gave us clear instructions and helpful tips to expedite the process seamlessly. They informed us that because we are in Gauteng, we would have to go through the SPCA Roodepoort Krugersdorp to conclude the process, facilitate site visits, etc.

This is where our nightmare begins. We have had to go through leaps and bounds throughout the adoption process to no avail. We found ourselves having to obtain letters from our landlord and the renting agent and approvals, even after we had noted that we have approval for an additional pet in a standalone home. We were told that we would have to drive to SPCA Louis Trichardt (equating to 2 trips) for a doggie meet and greet. When we kindly asked if they could first conduct and approve the site visit, they simply declined this request.

While I am fully aware of the due diligence the SPCA has to go through to ensure that the pets are handed to good loving homes, the feeling and experience we got from SPCA Roodepoort Krugersdorp was that they were looking for every reason and excuse to not approve our application even though they had never met our family. Whether it be because the doggy was, in fact, an SPCA Louis Trichardt dog or because we are renters, or who knows what else!

This process has left a bitter taste in our mouths! There are so many abandoned animals looking for homes and those of us who are willing and able to care for them, are brushed to the side or given the run-around, making it impossible to complete the adoption process.
