Animal Killers
I once before took a puppy to Edenvale SPCA, they told me they don’t have a vet to see to sick animals. They said, if I want to put my puppy down, that they can do. I just think that’s pathetic. They were supposed to save animals, not kill them. I drove off, went to Boksburg SPCA, they saw to my puppy and saved its life.
Today, 2024-05-31, yet again, Edenvale SPCA turns away a sick puppy due to their being no vet. This place is being funded. I’m forced to wonder what is happening at that place.

31 May 2024, 10:42Please note that not all SPCAs have in-house veterinarians and rely on the private veterinarians in the town to assist, however, as each SPCA is autonomous, we at the National Council of SPCAs will forward your complaint to the Edenvale SPCA asking for a response. Their response shall be posted within 7 days.

Unfortunately we have to dispute this review as we have no knowledge of anyone bringing in a sick puppy on 31 May 2024, or any day post or prior that would fit this complaint.
We would appreciate more information to investigate further.
Had this incident happened at our branch, we would in all likelihood have had to offer the same or similar advice.
Edenvale SPCA do not have the resources or funding to sustain a full-time vet.
Animals deemed to be in need of medical care are referred to local vets or Animals in Distress.
Where owners are unable to afford a vet and the animal is deemed to be suffering and/or beyond saving, we are duty bound to offer euthanasia as a humane way of preventing further trauma and suffering to the animal.
We are very happy to hear that the puppy recovered. We have every faith in the work of our peers at Boksburg SPCA and it is for this reason that we would refer people to them for help in matters where we are unable to assist, case in point, veterinary assistance.
We would also like to state that we receive no funding and rely completely on the generosity of donors and money generated through fundraising efforts of our committee and wonderful Edenvale community. We invite the complainant to visit our branch to see our facilities and the wonderful work our staff do with the limited resources available.
