Adoption approval - dog dies an hour later

<p>I have spent two weeks following the adoption process for a beautiful border collie x at the Midrand SPCA. I began with a visit to view her on Friday 15 July . Today, Monday 25th, I followed up after my successful home inspection at the weekend and was told I could fetch her on Thursday 28th - she was due to be spayed the Wednesday 27th. </p> <p>I went to buy the collar, lead, toys and food. </p> <p>An hour later I received a call to say that she had died from diarrhoea after her sterilisation this morning. I explained that the gentleman must have the wrong person because I'd just been told my dog was booked for sterilisation in two days time and no one mentioned she had been unwell.</p> <p>The two calls were literally an hour apart.</p> <p>He insisted he had the right dog, but gave me the wrong kennel number. My dog was K38, he mentioned K48. I asked him repeatedly to check he had the right dog. He refused. </p> <p>I ended the call in disbelief and messaged the SPCA on Facebook. A volunteer called me immediately and said she would investigate. I called her later before 4pm having had no feedback and she confirmed that it was my dog that had died and that she died due to a complication during sterilisation today. She said that the vet told her this. She said also that she was about to meet the chairperson to discuss this death - I'm not sure what that implies. </p> <p>The information I have been given by her, by the gentleman who called me to say my dog was dead and by the receptionist, who confirmed I could collect my dog, is conflicting and very worrying. (The receptionist even told me she had the paper work in front of her, the vet had signed off that our dog could be homed on Thursday and all was in order. She used the dog's correct name and kennel number). </p> <p>Furthermore, on Saturday 26th when I socialised with the dog and filled in the application, the receptionist told me that they do not sterilise on a Monday. </p> <p>I don't know who to believe. Either someone has made a terrible error (at best) and she genuinely succumbed to a sudden, albeit unlikely death. Of this, I would like proof. Or, I am being deceived for some reason which I sincerely want to believe is NOT the case. </p> <p>For all I know she's still alive; short of going there and demanding to search for her myself in the kennels, how do I know?</p>
