Action against abuses by SPCA
All people with complaints about the SPCA and their inspectors, please send your complaints to ********** We need as many as possible complaints to approach the government to review the powers they gave the SPCA. These powers are being abused and the SPCA acts much like the security police in apartheid era. They trample on the rights of animal owners and animals and they need to be stopped. There are two MP's who are prepared to submit changes in legislation is there is sufficient support.

We have now prepared the documents for the minister to limit the abuse of power by SPCA inspectors. The time has come to clip their wings. They will now politically and legally be reigned in and made to concentrate on their original purpose of caring for animals.

The court ruled that the SPCA is overstepping their "powers" when they "instruct" a member of the public to take an animal to a veterinarian.
The Animal Protection Act specifically compels the owner of an animal to provide medical care to an animal or put the animal down, no requirement for animal owners to take animal to a veterinarian.
In the magistrates own words "Even this court can not compel a person to take his child to a doctor or hospital, what right does the SPCA believe they have more than a court"
By the way, the Canadian Supreme Court recently suspended the "powers" of the SPCA as their "powers" are unconstitutional. The SPCA being a NGO and not under any government supervision / control may not be granted powers of search and seizure.
There is also currently an investigation into various SPCA in SA, confiscating animals like horses and donkeys and selling them to the meat trade.

16 Sept 2019, 15:31 Dear Pieter J We take note of your comment. The SPCA is empowered by the Animals Protection Act to prevent cruelty and suffering caused to animals. The SPCA Act empowers SPCA Inspectors to issue warnings. If an animal is in need of veterinary treatment then the SPCA is within its full right to educate the person to seek adequate veterinary treatment and for issuing a warning in this regard. If the owner fails to comply then the SPCA has the right to confiscate the animal and lay charges of animal cruelty because the animal was left to suffer. Many such cases have been won in court. Further to the above, we are not aware of any SPCAs selling horses and donkeys for the meat trade. We assume you have evidence in this regard. We urge you to come forward with this information so that the NSPCA can conduct an investigation. Please send all the information to ***
