Repayment interest too high

I find it difficult to finish paying student load as NSFAS charges ridiculous interest. I started repaying and my balance was R7000, I paid R6000 then had financial problems not I owe R3500. The phone numbers they have on website do not work and emails go unanswered. I find this a set back for someone who wants to finalize debt but interest is more than that of house.
