NSFAS prescribed debt .
I graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2014 I made use of the NSFAS grant for 2 years. 2013 and 2014.
I was told at the time that if I passed all my subjects that the loan would turn into a scholarship. So I made sure I passed.
8 years later I receive a call from a debt collection agency. Telling me I owe this amount and that I had to make a payment they were not willing to show me any proof, they only wanted to give me sms with bank details. I emailed NSFAS and heard nothing back ,I have emailed them twice. and when I spoke to my attorney they told me that this was prescribed debt as the 3 year mark had been and gone and that no court after 8 years would agree to this..
I did further investigating and apparently the NSFAS between 2012 and 2015 debt was written off. I think it is shocking that I never heard anything from anyone for over 8 years no account no emails of notice of being handed over and in todays day and age I do not pay on an sms
