NSFAS is a Monster

NSFAS is such a **** I have been owing them roughly R9000 but due to being unemployed i couldn't pay them back immediately and therefore have accumulated an interest of R3000 meaning that i have to pay back around R12000 now. I finally got a job and made arrangements to repay, been paying them on a monthly basis now since March but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I lost a job and couldn't pay for last month August and now surprisingly they have added an interest charge of R2500 of which I don't even understand how it was calculated over the outstanding balance of R3300. So now it means I owe them R5800 this doesn't make sense at all. I'm trying to call the offices but there is no answer I don't know now who to take this up with as I wont be able to pay all this nonsense. NSFAS is my worst nightmare tight now I have better things to be dealing with than this ****.

Good day  Takalani,

Thank you for informing NSFAS of your unemployed status.  Based on the agreement between NSFAS and yourself, you are not exempted to repay your loan while you are unemployed.  However, interest is accruing onto your account.
Although repayments start once you earn a minimum R 30 000 per annum, NSFAS would encourage you to service your loan.  In the interim it is advisable that you furnish us with a certified affidavit stating that you are unemployed.

Kindly forward the above to ***.

For more information on your loan account call our contact centre on ***.  Kind Regards,

KE
