NSFAS Incompetence!!!!!

I am utterly frustrated, annoyed and stressed because of NSFAS approach used to squeeze money out of me. Let me provide some context to the issues I’m currently experiencing with NSFAS:

• Firstly, I took a study loan in 2007 for the year 2007 when I was only 18 years of age due to financial constraints (difficulties experienced in raising funds for modules required for the completion of my studies). • In 2009, I called the NSFAS contact centre using the provided contact number and requested a statement in order to arrange payments ***ing balance for the modules I had asked payment assistance from NSFAS). The operator handling the call informed me that my information was not registered and that NSFAS might have withdrawn the loan based on my results (passed all the modules registered for) but if they haven’t withdrawn, then I will receive a statement within 6 months reflecting the total owing balance. 6 months went passed and further months passed with no statement sent to me, at that point I had then assumed that the debt has been written off (due to the fact that I passed all the modules and also because of what the operator handling my call mentioned). • However, In 2010 I called again just to confirm that my standpoint was still the same and yet again I was told the same story. • Fast forward to 2018 suddenly NSFAS is bombarding me with SMS’s and endless calls to tell me that I owe the institution an exorbitant amount of money and I'm expected to pay seven (7) times the amount that was originally asked for.

Honestly, who is at fault in all of this? A former student who followed up over five (5) years ago and received zero feedback or the institution that neglected and failed to provide me sound information and failed to respond in due time (no form of communication until now when they want to ****** a ridiculous amount of money that I’m not in a sound position to afford).

Can anyone assist me in getting this matter reviewed as it has tormented me, caused me pain and brought unnecessary stress in my life.
