NSFAS Funding

I would like to lodge a complaint against NSFAS. My daughter app**** for NSFAS funding in 2022, she was then declined. She then again app**** in 2023 for the academic year 2024, this is when the missing middle was implemented. The application took very long and was only approved late 2024, which she was toO late to start with her studies. She then registered at NWU Vaal campus for the academic year 2025, which she was under the impression her NSFAS funding was approved. By February 2025 no registration payment was made by NSFAS to NWU. NWU then advise her to pay the registration fees and once NSFAS pay the registration fees, NWU will refund her. I had to take a personal load to pay the registration fees in order for my child to start with her studies. Every time when she made an inquiry at NWU to found out if NSFAS has made any payment, then they advise that no payment was received. She also did not receive any allowance or allowance to buy her books. When she eventually got through to NSFAS, they advise her that she had to reapply for the academic year 2025. But there were no option for her to reapply, as her status shows PROVISIONALLY FUNDED FOR BURSARY. Nobody informed her that she had to reapply and there was no option for her to reapply. NSFAS call centre agents are not very friendly and very rude and told her that she is lying and that she could have reapp****. NWU informer her now that she is liable to pay for her studies this year. We are unfortunately not financially able to pay for her studies. NWU also informed her that she won’t be able to further her studies in 2026 if her account is not paid in full for 2025. We were under the impression that NSFAS will fund her studies. We are under tremendous pressure and stress due to this situation. My child is working part time to assist with her studies. I feel this is treated very unfairly towards my child as she won’t be able to afford to pay NWU for the academic year 2025, this means she won’t be able carry on with her studies in 2026. NSFAS does not respond back when you send them e-mails. When you phone the call centre you hold on for more than an hour before you get through.
