Disgusted about bursary schemes
My name is Nolene Wessels, and I am a third year student, currently studying at the University of Pretoria.
I have been funded by the Funza Lushaka bursary scheme since the year 2016.
The year 2017 was where the problems started. They notified me, saying I have the bursary for the year 2017, but I received no payments, and my tuition was outstanding. That year I was in and out of their offices, making calls, emailing, but nothing was done.
Only in 2018, they paid the money to me for 2017 and I also received monthly payments for 2018, everything was going smooth, until I have learned that my bursary has been redeemed, without any notification or explanation.
I contacted Funza Lushaka contact person, on 21/06/2018, to find out why I have not yet received my monthly payment, as per previous months and was told that bursary has been redeemed, also without explanation.
I then contacted NSFAS, 22/06/2018, which is the primary funder of my bursary, and I then learned that they have no record of me having the bursary for the year 2018, they can only find payments for 2016 and 2017.
The Funza Lushaka contact person also said to me that I was not the only person to whom this happened, but I am the only person speaking up about this matter, and the manner it is being handled.
Thank you for contacting NSFAS.
