Warning: North Transport Services

Jimmy and his team were asked to transport my household contents from Johannesburg to Cape Town. In Cape Town, he was supposed to meet me and the trustees of the complex I was moving into at a particular time, so they could oversee the unloading process, but he arrived over half an hour late, which wasn't very professional. Upon arrival, it turned out that his truck wasn't properly sealed, and that, due to some rain during the journey, my belongings were soaked with rust-coloured water. Many of my belongings, which included valuable and sentimental items, were irreparably damaged and needed to be thrown away. In my opinion, Jimmy handled the situation very poorly. Although he acknowledged that the damage was both unprofessional and his own fault, he refused to compensate me for my losses (which were extensive), and informed me that he wouldn't be able to lodge an insurance claim on my behalf either (despite advertising that he had adequate insurance coverage). When I refused to pay the balance owed to Jimmy (around R5-10K, which paled in comparison to the losses I had sustained) until the matter had been resolved through the proper legal processes (which I believe to be a reasonable and indeed responsible approach), he physically threatened me; told me that unless I paid him he would drive my belongings back to Johannesburg and leave them there; and actually tried to drive off with my belongings ****il I started calling the police, which I luckily didn't need to go through with in the end). It has been five months since this whole ordeal, and Jimmy still has some of my furniture, and refuses to bring it back to me, saying that it is in Johannesburg, and that I must collect it from him. My experience with Jimmy was rather traumatic, and I regret having engaged him as a service provider. I certainly won't use him and his team again.
