Awesome stay at North Lodge Self Catering Duban

“ Travelling in July 2022 in a family group of 7 adults from Gauteng to Durban, I needed something really affordable for 3 nights from 20th. My search for “cheapest self catering Durban” on google turned up North Lodge Self Catering Cottages. I rang the number and was assisted by Brad. I was happy with the rate offered for a suite of 3 separate en-suite rooms with kitchen. Brad sent me some information via whatsapp. Brad explained that North Lodge offers the lowest rates in exchange for 100% deposit. I was a bit wary of paying 100% upfront without having seen the place. I was then told that a split payment of 50% would also be fine, but that there was a split-payment fee of 15%. Since I needed to make the saving, I took a chance and paid the full booking value to secure the accommodation. I then decided to add a child to the group and advised North Lodge. Brad confirmed that an extra bed would be placed in my room at no extra charge. We arrived very late on the Thursday night at the Umgeni Park property (which was easy to find) and Brad welcomed us and settled us in and gave us the wi-fi pin. We were all able to take a warm shower after the tiring trip. We had not packed sufficient towels but Brad loaned us 2 – (and reminded us that North Lodge does not offer towels.) The facilities were standard and the place was clean and well maintained. Our unit only had a single induction cooker, but when we needed extra cooking capacity, Brad gave us access to a bigger kitchen with a bigger stove. All rooms were en-suite so bathing was a breeze -even for 8 of us. Beds were comfortable. We liked that Brad stayed in touch with us on our trip and waited up for us. We were warmly received and really made to feel at home. We don’t know the area, but we felt safe during the night as well as during the day. Fortunately, no loadshedding or water outages while we were there – but Brad mentioned he has solar backup for when power goes down. He also mentioned that Durban is having water challenges after the flood – fortunately not on our stay! Like most places that are affordable, there are areas that require attention – mostly just aesthetics – but it’s a nice accommodation in a very good location quite close to all the places we wanted to go to on our stay of 3 nights. North Lodge has all the basic conveniences one needs for a short and busy stay like ours. Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket by the Sea and Spar are around the corner. Good location for a self catering accommodation. I would gladly book it again next time I travel to Durban”
