I am beyond frustrated and extremely disappointed with the level of service I have received from Toyota Middelburg (NMI). What makes this even worse is that I have always been a big Toyota fan. I specifically looked forward to owning my first Hilux because of its reputation for being one of the most reliable vehicles on the market. Unfortunately, my experience has been the complete opposite. Instead of reliability, I have dealt with constant mechanical issues that are never properly resolved — only brushed aside. Over the past year, I have repeatedly reported serious issues with my Toyota Hilux GD6 Legend 2022, including knocking in the steering when turning at low speeds and persistent squeaking and knocking noises from the front suspension. Every single time the vehicle went in for a service, I raised these concerns. Every single time, I was told the issue was “fixed” — usually blamed on something vague like “loose nuts and bolts.” Not once were these issues actually resolved. Instead, it feels like my concerns have been dismissed or downplayed at every visit. I have been made to feel like the problems are minor or imagined, only to experience the exact same issues the moment I drive away. That is incredibly frustrating and, frankly, feels like gaslighting from a service centre that should be taking customer concerns seriously. Now, conveniently, my warranty expired on 16 March 2026 — and the problems are still exactly the same (if not worse). This is after I made consistent efforts to report the faults while the vehicle was still under warranty. To make matters worse, I was told upon collecting my vehicle that multiple components had been replaced, including the steering shaft, suspension bushings, and rear leaf springs. I immediately took the vehicle to a nearby fitment centre for verification — and was told that NONE of those parts had been replaced. In fact, the bolts are so badly rusted that they couldn’t even be loosened, which clearly shows that no work was done. On top of that, my vehicle now has no power steering — creating a serious safety risk. What is even more disappointing is that we have supported this dealership extensively: - Purchased a brand new Toyota Fortuner - Purchased a brand new Toyota Corolla Cross - Purchased a second-hand Toyota Fortuner (2022, ~80,000 km) - Purchased this Hilux (second-hand, ~38,000 km) Despite this loyalty, we are treated with what feels like complete disregard, poor workmanship, and possible dishonesty about work claimed to have been completed. This is unacceptable. Customers trust Toyota for reliability, quality, and integrity — but this experience has completely shattered that trust. It feels like once the warranty is near its end, the urgency to properly resolve issues disappears entirely. I am now left with an unsafe vehicle, unresolved mechanical issues, and zero confidence in the dealership. I would strongly caution anyone considering this dealership to think twice. I expect urgent intervention and accountability from Toyota South Africa.
