I'm not surprised to read so many negative reports on Ninety One. It seems to me that Investec has hived off a problem child into a separate legal entity in an attempt to divert negative sentiment away from themselves. I'm not sure about the ethics, or legality, of this.
I had 5 years of Tax Free Savings contributions through Investec which they then unilaterally hived off into Ninety One, who then proceeded to build a new reporting platform which simply doesn't work. I gave up trying to understand the performance of the underlying investment funds and requested that they liquidate the investments and transfer the proceeds to Allan Gray, which they did with reasonable efficiency. However, they left a small balance behind. The amount is not material, but the money is mine and I want it back. I've been trying to get them to refund the money since 18 May but they ignore my e-mails. I'm lodging a complaint with them today, and will be following up with a complaint to the Ombudsman if they do not process the refund immediately. I cannot recommend this company. The safekeeping and performance reporting of their clients' money should be sacrosanct. Designing fancy IRR charts showing nonsensical returns simply does not meet this expectation and leads to a loss of trust.
