Nikon warranty cover

We bought a pair of binoculars in December as a Christmas present. The eye piece is faulty. So it was couriered to Cape Town via a local distributor in Pietermaritzburg. The courier cost was R500. (The distributor has no cost in it) I just find that excessive. I cannot believe that equipment that has a warranty and is deemed to be covered by the warranty should exclude the cost of where and how it gets repaired. I am very disappointed.
