Disqualified from a subsidy if even 5 cents over the cutoff
I am so disappointed in this service. Everyone is encouraged to apply for FLISP, especially as you can only qualify as a first-time buyer. My husband and I submitted our application more than a month ago, without receiving any feedback whatsoever, not even an acknowledgement of receipt. I have sent countless emails, try calling every day without any response. Eventually I drove there today to try and see if an in-person appearance would help at all. I was told we were declined because our gross income is R48 over their cutoff. R48! Because of R48, we cannot qualify for even the smallest subsidy of R27960, which would enable us to buy a house. The R48, over 582 months only will add up to the minimum subsidy amount. How can they increase the home loan amount without increasing the income bracket? With increasing living costs it is becoming more and more difficult to afford anything, let alone a house. We are stuck without any help from government because our gross income is so barely over the cutoff but they do not care. I was told in person today by the NHFC even if it was 5 cents over the cutoff they would not consider it and there is no way to log an appeal. If even 5 cents disqualifies you from a housing subsidy, what hope is there???
