DO NOT BOOK | unreliable agents
A friend booked this for our group for New Years (30 December - 2 January) at the beginning of June 2025. We booked far in advance to ensure that we are able to go as this location has been on our bucket list. The booking was done through booking.com and was confirmed by both booking.com and the agent managing the property. In November, we saw the property still being advertised on AirBNB for an extra R1000 for the exact same time period we were confirmed to go. We then reached out to the agent who assured us that this was a mistake and that our booking was confirmed for New Years. The agent also tried to get us to book privately with her (cancel on booking.com and book directly with the lodge), however we declined this request to protect us in case something else happens. The AirBNB listing was removed shortly after and as we were assured by the agent of our booking, we decided to trust her and keep our reservation. We paid the full amount on time through booking.com with no issues - this was mid-December. On the 28th of December (2 days before we are due to arrive), we reached out to the agent to ask where we should get the keys for the property from and were very bluntly and rudely told that our booking was cancelled due to the property being double booked. Apparently this property has 2 agents and the other had booked another group (which is probably what we saw on the more expensive AirBNB listing). We were offered half-hearted apologies and another property to stay at from the 31st (making our stay 1 day shorter than intended) however this was at an additional cost. When we tried asking when the other booking was made (as our booking was made over 7 months prior to our stay), this offer was quickly taken off the table and we were told that booking.com will be handling the rest going forward. While we have received our refund for this stay, we are left with a very sour taste in our mouths. Especially since some of our group had flown into Gauteng on the 28th for this stay, only to hear later that day that our stay was cancelled. Additionally, asking us for more money to fix a mistake that was made by the agent is insensitive and not normal practice. I do not recommend trying to stay here.
