Beware: Bad, pathetic service

<p>Today Friday 2nd June I went with my daughter to New World Menlyn as she wanted to buy earphones. She saw some Michael Jackson branded ones for R299. We bought them using cash. Within two minutes of leaving the store she tried them on her phone and only one was working. We immediately net back to the store. The guy who helped us went and took a new box but still only one worked. He then went and got about 4 more and I told him I don’t want them anymore as I could not trust the brand and that he must give me my money back. He then said he will give me a credit note. I told him I don’t want a credit note as I needed the cash to go and buy earphones from another store. He then went to his manager (said his name was Werner--but could have been lying) who told me the earphones were working on HIS phone and hence he could not give me a refund because there was nothing wrong with the earphones but the problem was with my daughter's cellphone. I asked him to show me a sign that says "no refund” and there was none because they obviously know this is against the CPA. He actually had the guts to LIE to me and say the CPA does not cover refunds anymore!!!!! I then asked him to give me a written note to say they don’t give refunds. My intention was to take the note to my lawyer and teach them a lesson!! He must have sensed it because he then said him a card so he could do a refund. I flatly refused and told him I don’t have a card and that's why I used cash. He then said I will need to come back on Monday as they don’t have cash in the store, I reminded him that I just paid in cash less than 10 minutes ago and that I will not come back on Monday as I also had a job to go to. When he insisted I asked him to give me a written note to say he will give me the cash on Monday. At that point he opened the till, asked me to give him R1 and he gave me back my R300!! I will NEVER be seen dead in that store ad nether will any of my friends and family I see that my experience is similar to that of many and that New World doesn’t even respond to HelloPeter. So my advice to all of you out there my advice is: STAY AWAY!!</p>
