Good day Peter My vehicle broke down, a 2000 model 1.8 Opel Astra. I was told I needed to replace the engine. I visited a few places in Rustenburg, and decided to make use of New Era Motors, I was assisted by the gentlemen named Quintin. My brother paid over the money for repair to New Era Motors, an amount of R16 500.00 incl. VAT, for replacement reconditioned engine. After the vehicle was repaired, they were very kind and delivered the vehicle at my workplace, because I was working long hours. I assumed that the transaction were for New Era Motors to keep the old engine, which was fine with me as what do I do with an old engine anyway. I realised afterwards that when driving my car, it was stuttering, as if their was a dead spot somewhere and the engine light went on, which according to the vehicle's owners manual, you should not continue to drive around with the vehicle. I immediately reported it to Quintin. He requested to bring the vehicle in and he will take it to Bruno Auto-Electrician to do diagnostic tests. After getting the vehicle back the engine light was off, driving the vehicle a few days, it was back on. I report to Quintin again, he said the engine exhaust (Lamda) sensor need to be replaced, which is why the vehicle is driving like there is a dead spot somewhere. I was un-happy with Quintin's response. I told Quinton my brother just paid over R16 500 for the repair, which I borrowed it from my brother. He said it is something that needs to be done, it is nobody's fault. He said he can replace it for me for R650, but at another time he said it is R 6500.00!, He said that is why the engine light is on, it will be like that till I replaced the exhaust sensor, but I can drive around with the vehicle, it wound damage the engine. Quinton refer me to a other diagnostics company near Kallie's Panelbeaters in Rustenburg (I can establish the exact detail if required). This gentleman did a diagnostics test on the vehicle, but he did not manage to clear the engine light. He requested that I bring back the vehicle on the following Monday. After work my son went to collect my vehicle, the gentleman asked if we replaced the engine recently, which my son confirmed. He said it seems the throttle mechanism of the old engine must have been put on the replaced engine, I called Quinton the nest day to report this finding to him. He was not very happy, keep on saying it is the exhaust sensor to be replaced.. About six weeks ago, I started my car to go home after work, the engine don't want to idle. Ii called Quintin immediately, He said I must bring the vehicle back. I was too afraid to drive the vehicle to his workshop in this condition. He was kind enough and send his drivers to collect the vehicle. A few days later he reported back asking me he wants to send the driver to collect the old engine from my house. I told him he never gave me back the old engine. He said he will have a look around the workshop for the engine. After few weeks, I contacted him again asking him how far he is with my car, as I am struggling without transport. He mentioned that the old engine throttle was not working as well, as it is broken. He said because I don't have money to spend on the vehicle any more, I must be patient waiting for a throttle. He further mentioned that If I am lucky, someone will help him as he is searching for a 2nd hand unit one for me. I told him that I was driving my car with the old engine for many years with the previous throttle and the engine light never went on. Why now all of a sudden? He got very upset with me over the phone saying I was underestimating his integrity. I said no I don't think so it is a very logically question to ask. I have since followed up on several occasions with him, but no luck as yet. Please can you assist me. The invoices and additional information can be forwarded to you on request.
