Kitchen nightmares experience

As part of our home renovations, we contacted Peter Heaney from New-Additions Cabinetry to give us a quote for a kitchen installation. We did our due diligence. Looked at his previous work on his website and facebook page, looked at reviews, even went and had a look at a neighbours kitchen he had recently finished. He came recommended.

In early February, we decided to give him a small project of installing a kitchen, bedroom cupboards and bathroom sliding door in our flat to see his workmanship which was good overall, quick and reasonably priced. Except there were a couple of snags which took forever to resolve.

We decided to give him the job of installing our cupboards in our kitchen in our main house. He insisted on us paying him a 65% deposit on the 15th February after he kept on harrassing us and told us a that he used his own money to secure materials. (First of many blatant lies)

After we returned from holiday (25th February) he came to meet with us to measure and discuss timelines. Initially we were told the kitchen carcasses would take 1-3 days to install followed by the panels and doors and granite 7 days later. He committed to a date then just didn’t arrive. Made excuse after excuse. Public holidays, death in the family, delay in getting materials.

Eventually he committed to a date, the kitchen carcasses were finally installed mid March. We then were told the doors and panels were going in to be sprayed and the granite was being cut and would take a week to 10 days. We finally learnt that he never placed the order for panels to be sprayed or granite to be cut. After chasing him for a date, he finally came back to finish the kitchen installation on the 10th April. He made quite a few mistakes and had to get a new floating shelf, more doors re-cut and sprayed. So instead of coming in and finishing the installation it dragged on over a month. We eventually gave him an ultimatum and he finished on Friday 19th May a whole 3 months later.

His professionalism, cabinetry installation s****s, and customer serice are questionable.

He measured our kitchen a few times and ordered the wrong size cupboards.

He **** and made excuses on numerous occasions and we caught him out. He tried to charge us an extra R3000 for a piece of granite which was given to us for free by the granite supplier for a mistake New Additions made.

We asked for specific kitchen handles and knobs from a supplier. He kept on bringing other handles from one of his supplier which was incredibly frustrating. Eventually I gave up and choose handles and knobs from his supplier.

He also removes any bad reviews from his page, which means he doesnt care what customers think and the quality of work he does.

We eventually cut our losses and got in another supplier who fixed the bad work New Additions Cabinetry did.

I would not recommend New Additions to anyone.
