Taking advantage of a captive consumer.

I purchased a Nespresso machine as a gift for a friend at in Canal Walk November. It was on a less 15% special. When I went to register the machine I was shown a superior machine only available in the actual Nespresso store which I knew my friend would prefer. The store manager said he would be willing to swap the machine but that I would lose my 15% discount, and have to pay in the difference on both the discount and the upgrade. I was aggrieved about this but unwilling to compromise on the model my friend would be happiest with I agreed to this demand.

I did ask the manager if given that Boardman's had a special on, would the Nespresso store also be planning a sale of some sort, since my friend's birthday celebration was a month away and I could wait a few weeks before purchasing. He said not. I discovered a week or two later, that just 4 days after my R6000 purchase the Nespresso store had indeed gone on sale with considerable savings and free pods.

Both the manager and Head Office staff were unmoved by my protestations, and sadly this only goes to show with what contempt the public will be treated when a product finds a captive market.
