Nespresso clearly does not need new customers

I have been deciding it a Nespresso machine was worth the effort. After several years of debating I decide that I will buy one. Went to @home and they also gave us an R800 gift voucher which they said could only be redeemed at any Nespresso stores and they also provide the location of the three in Gauteng. That should have rung some alarm bells... but wait there is more.

Off to Menlyn Nespresso store we go. I get there and now they ask for proof of payment (as if I stole voucher and or the machine) I present the receipt. Now they ask me for the machine serial number. Sorry, I was told to present the voucher at you store and not told that we needed a proof of purchase and a serial number.

Here is their response: Sorry without that information (we FORGOT to tell you about) we cannot assist you.

Well Nespresso, not only did I make the effort to purchase the machine and then drive the 200 kilometres to your store in Menlyn ~ If the Serial number and proof of purchase is such and important part of redeeming the voucher then WHY is it not clearly stated ON THE FRONT of the voucher and in fact why is it not captured on the purchase receipt as part of the sales process. I do not select your retail outlets but perhaps you can tell them to inform the paying customer what they need to redeem the voucher before just sending them to your store.

So Nespresso says tough, go get the serial number and we chat again.... and expect me to make another 200km trip.

So here was my response.

I went back to @home and told the of the poor service and misrepresentation I received from both @home and Nespresso.

The machine packaging indicated that there are 16 free coffee pods included with the machine ~ There were only 14 ~ that is Misrepresentation of the facts and that also contravenes the law. I returned the machine and requested a full refund which they wanted to put on a gift voucher. Sorry, pay me the cash as I’m NEVER EVER going to spend one more cent at @home (or its group of partner stores) and definitely never going to deal with Nespresso è I was in your store and you turned me away.

Now since you don’t appear to respond to any reports on HelloPeter here is what you could have done.

Dear SIR. We are terribly sorry they you were misinformed by the store and we will take action to remedy that but we really appreciate the effort you made to purchase a machine and to drive all the way to our Nespresso store. Here is what we can do while you are here. Why don’t you taste some of the coffee in our range of products range and record which ones you like. Then, when you get home, you can register your machine online (what ever the process is). Once registered you can order the coffee you like AND we will cover the first R800 off the voucher AND we will deliver it to your home AND there is one happy customer.

Just FYI. We drink about 4,160 cups of coffee a year and at and average of R8.00 per cup that is about R33,280.00 plus the machine. But you treated me like dirt so you can shove the machine and consumables.
