VERY ANGRY AND DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER - NC TIMBERWORKS (ATLANTIS)
On the 8th April 2018 I accepted a quotation from a company NC Timberworks for a 15x 6 meter wendy house we wanted built. The quotation was for a pitched roof. A 70% deposit was paid in order for the work to begin. The walls of the structure were erected and aot of the wood beams were sque. The structure was almost complete when I noticed that the roof they had built was not a pitched roof but a flat roof. When I approached the owner Newton Claasen, he said that his girlfriend Zandalee Alexander with whom I had discussed the quotation with had not relaid to him that I had asked for a pitched roof. Which was clearly a lie as the quotation sent to me stated Pitched Roof. He then began changing the roof structure in order to allow for a pitch. Once again as we stood and watched them build we noticed that there were no trusses supp**** for the pitched roof as this is what is required. Once again we approached Newton Claasen who was on and off site that the roof was not being built correctly. After a long debate he told us that he would bring his carpenter that does his industrial work onto site to makeup the trusses. The carpenters name is Rodney. During this stage which now took forever we commented on the poor quality of the workmanship. Nails where just hammered into wood and we could see that it was heading for disaster. The roof sheets that had been nailed to the so called flat roof were now going to be reused on the pitch roof which we also mentioned to the owner. Because surely the holes that were made by the previous nails put in would not line up with the layout of the pitched roof. Once again Newton Claasen assured us that this would not be a problem as they would seal the holes. One of my neighbours who popped in to also check on the building work advised them that they needed to erect atleast 8 trusses as they are supposed to be not more than 1.5m apart. The worker and owners girlfriend did not like the fact that my neighbour was getting involved and asked me that he please not interfere in their work as they new what they were doing. My husband also told them they must use steel plates atleast to help with the joining of the wood and they did use a few of those. It took almost another full week for the roof to be put on. and they used silicone to seal the holes made by nails. My husband also pointed out that they needed to allow for enough overlap when laying the roof sheets down however this also did not take place. They spread the roof sheets out as far as possible as to save on costs. This was also brought to the owners attention but each time he had an answer for the bad workmanship. The carpenter told us that he knew it was a bad job and that he unfortunately was just following orders and that he would never work for Mr Claasen again.it would be the last work he does for him. Finally we moved into our new home and of course the first time it rained, we ended up putting buckets everywhere. It rained on my children while they were sleeping in their beds so we had to lift beds and move in during the night. It rained in different spots and I had to lift floor tiles up so that they would not get damaged. Immediately I contacted Newton Claasen and Zandalee Alexander and they told me that they would come out and sort out the roof problem. Their phones are not always on so it takes a day or so for them to finally reply . When they arrived to come repair they brought a roof sealant with them and their worker the same worker who made a mistake with the pitch of the roof, climbed onto the roof to slap on the roof sealant and what they call "lap". In doing this he also stood on the roof sheets and trampled them causing dents and damage. Once again they left. and once again it rained. this time my tv and microwave got wet. I would get home last at night and have to dry my beds with a fan, shoes, toys, boxes everything was getting wet. My children were getting sick as the wet floors made the house damp and because we were l;lifting the carpet tiles every time it rained in different spots there was eventually no carpets on the floors . Once again i advised both owner and partner that we still had a leaking roof and that now my tv and microwave were damaged. Zandalee apologised and her answer to me was all we can do is comer and repair it. I was now furious and took my tv into LAD Tv in paarden eiland for an assessment. I was advised that my tv was broken due to water damage and that a replacement screen to the value of R5800 was needed. alternatively I could buy a new tv as this would be cheaper. Once again I advised Newton Clalasen and Zandalee Alexander that we now had a huge problem. and that they are liable for my damages caused by the leaking roof. Mr Claasens answer to this was that he will not be replacing my tv as it is my responsibility to look after my belongings and that he would come and replace the roof sheets. Two days later Zandalee and the same worker returned but only with a few roof sheets. They did not have any intention of replacing the entire roof as promised. but to try and sort the problem out as cheaply as possible. I now advised Newton Claasen that I would be taking this matter further. I continued to send them pictures and proof of the leaks we were still experiencing and even sent them a video of the rain coming threw the joints in the middle of the roof. Eventually Zandalee rep**** and apologised saying she was sorry the worker had told them this time it wont leak and clearly he disappointed them. The worker burnt flash cards on the wrong side and my husband tried to explain to him it was wrong but he still carried on. He then proceeded to use ,my broom to push out the dents he had made by standing on the roof.now my question is why are you listening to an inexperienced worker. You should know the ins and outs of your own business. which tells me that NC Timberworks does not know the first thing about building wendy houses. When I returned from work my husband pointed out to me that the worker had now torn the sheets further because he stood were nails were coming threw the sheets. I also received a message from Zandalee saying they would replace my tv. We even offered them an alternative saying our tv was not new so if they could find us a replacement similar would eb happy because we just wanted the problem solved and to have them out of our lives. But once again we heard nothing further from them. I contacted the CGCO but they did not receive any feedback from Mr Claasen who was ignoring my emails too. Eventually he sent me a message saying my husband was a **** and that he had told the worker he was happy with what they had done. I then went to his house to deliver a final letter of demand which ended up in a confrontation because the worker who was with him told my husband he was the one that pushed the dents out with a broom. Clearly he is lying to protect his job. I was advised to go threw the small claims court which I am now busy with. Please do not trust this company and Newton Claasen's promises. He has no intention of delivering customer satisfaction.
