Non-acceptance of accountability

The job was small. A meranti pedestrian gate for R5800. The installation was done as promised. After 5 months I noticed the bottom panel of the gate was dropping out, and the gate had also started to stick a little due to weather. Zie (the owner of the construction business) rep**** to my concern with "there's no guarantee". Nevertheless I manged to get him to site, and he effected repairs to the panel but not the slight sticking, as he said this was not necessary. A month later the top panel is pushing up away from the gate, the bottom panel is starting to drop again and the gate is completely stuck fast. Zie's response is that he "didn't make the door ... he only fits them", "wood swells", "it was perfect at the time" and "I'm only a handyman not a contractor". I am expected to pay for remedial works. As pointed out to Zie the gate is not accessible, and presents a security and fire risk (fortunately I have a back entrance). All I wanted was for him to stop by (he lives really close) and fix the 2x panels and plane the door so it no longer sticks. He has since blocked me on WhatsApp.
