Drivers license renewal

I have to apply for my new drivers license as the old one is expiring, however, you have to go on-line to apply. No longer available to apply directly at the license department. It has been 3 weeks and I'm unable to log an appointment or even choose a date. It's never available, only states there are zero places available. What do you do when you're drivers license expires and you haven't been able to get an appointment to renew it? The previous system definitely worked better when you could walk in and have the license renewed. The telephone number is also never answered. There are no other contact details on the website.
