Sweet Jesus, why must I sacrifice both my cheeks for NRE?

I handed in a notice to leave Chesterhill Flats in Bloemfontein end of May this year. The last month I stayed there, July, I was hardly ever in the flat, and the bill that was issued to me for the month was more than any other time I had stayed there since April.

When I call to enquire about this, they claim that the owner of the building charges geyser usage for four units and each tenant is assumed to use a quarter of the geyser heat and water. In principle this is an unfair practice and when I lodged a complaint regarding this in August I was told that the matter will be resolved albeit being given attitude. I thought it was a racial issue but having read the reviews I think the entire business model is dependent on maladministration and bullying of clients. Anyways, how can a company with so many years experience managing property not employ meters that actually bill a unit and not resort to lazy business practices such as claiming that whether or not a client likes it their bill is equally distributed amongst several users? In a world where technology exists to accurately measure usage per unit this tactic of theirs is an unfair and unsavoury means and it is downright *********. The personnel have got bad attitudes and speak to clients like dogs and this is a borderline human rights issue because of connotations of indignifying individuals who cannot otherwise stand up for their consumer rights.

On top of having lodged a complaint about this in August I still have not received any clarity regarding my complaint and have instead been advised that my matter will be sent to the owner every week. It is now more than four weeks and all I have received from the side of NRE is that my account, which I have complained about, will be charged interest because it is now a month outstanding. In other words I am being told that my complaint is not important but I must pay whatever is deemed right by them despite its unfairness to me and my matter will still not grab their attention. All of this, and i still have not got my deposit back. In essence, as a paying customer who has not given any trouble paying rent or services, i must be treated with disrespect, be charged exorbitantly and unfairly, complain about it, and not have any of my concerns resolved and still turn the other cheek and pay a hefty fee for services plus interest. So much for Jesus and the new South Africa!
