NFOSA is terrible – South Africans must petition Parliament for change
NFOSA this ombudsman is terrible. In fact people of South Africa must write petition to national parliament and request that the government start an ombudsman which will have power to investigate and implement resolutions and their decisions must be implemented. NFOSA is funded by the banks and insurance. NFOSA hired foreigners as adjudicators and sometimes these adjudicators have no idea how to handle the complaint. I have 3 complaints against Standard Bank, one is home loan and the second complaint is insurance and the third complaint is also related. The adjudicators are rude in my complaints. In my case, the senior adjudicator said my submissions are “repetitive and cumbersome” and will never be used as evidence, and cannot investigate and use my statement. This clearly shows that she did not read my submission properly. This conduct was ****** and unprofessional. I lodged a complaint against this adjudicator from NFOSA to the Ombud Council but even Ombud Council doesn’t respond to emails and does not investigate complaints against NFOSA. I researched if my complaints are related to CPA then I am preparing to lodge complaint to the National Consumer Commission and get referral or non-referral and proceed to the National Consumer Tribunal. That is the best option, but your complaint must have CPA. Also National Credit Regulator can be used to lodge complaints then NFOSA. There must be laws that can give citizens power to sue NFOSA or report them for being unprofessional and they must hire only South Africans who understand our Constitution of South Africa. If adjudicators are ****** they must face consequences. These people have serious problems and protect Standard Bank and Standard Bank insurance. NFOSA is a waste of time and the government must disband it and start a new ombudsman which can be controlled by government. I will write a letter to parliament secretary and national speaker of assembly and complain about NFOSA and write a petition to say either Public Protector must have a division which will work as Ombudsman or convert other government entities to be ombudsman which will be neutral when investigating our complaints.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.
Please note that your matter has been referred to the relevant team for review.
You will receive further communication from our office once the allocated adjudicator has assessed the information and is ready to engage with you.

Today, we have lodged a formal petition to the Finance Department in Parliament, as well as to various national committees, regarding the conduct of NFOSA and other relevant authorities, including banks and insurance companies. NFOSA has repeatedly shown bias, often defending financial institutions instead of protecting consumers when complaints are lodged.
It is critical that we continue to submit petitions and hold these bodies accountable — including NFOSA, other Ombud Councils, the FSCA, NCC, and NCR — to ensure that complaints from South African citizens are handled fairly, transparently, and without institutional bias.
Consumers deserve protection, fairness, and impartiality. The system must work for the people, not just the institutions.
