NFO – I Am Still Waiting for Transparency and Accountability

I am extremely disappointed with the way the National Financial Ombud Scheme has handled my complaints. I currently have three complaints/reported matters with the NFO, yet I have not seen the level of communication, transparency or meaningful engagement that I expected from an independent ombud. My concern is particularly serious because the underlying dispute involves Standard Bank. I have repeatedly raised concerns that the bank has provided explanations that I believe are inconsistent and unsupported by concrete transaction details, yet I have not received a clear explanation as to how these allegations were independently verified. I have also sent *** requesting updates and clarification, but I am still waiting for proper responses. Why am I having to repeatedly chase the Ombud for an update on my own complaints? The purpose of an independent ombud is to examine both sides fairly—not simply accept a bank's position without requiring clear and substantiated facts. I am therefore publicly asking the NFO: Where is the transparency? Where is the independent investigation? Why have my concerns not been properly addressed? Why am I not receiving timely updates? I am not asking the NFO to automatically rule in my favour. I am asking for a fair, transparent and evidence-based process where the bank is required to substantiate its allegations and I am given a meaningful opportunity to respond. I expect the NFO to do better and to treat my complaints with the seriousness they deserve. I will continue pursuing this matter until I receive clear answers and a transparent outcome.

Reviewer Update
I am extremely disappointed with how the National Financial Ombud (NFO) handled my complaint against Standard Bank. My complaint was not simply about my bank account being closed. My concern was the basis on which I was associated with ***** and the fact that Standard Bank confirmed that my details were placed on an internal ***** database. What is even more concerning is that the NFO has now expressly stated that they are not finding that I committed *****. However, they continue to accept the bank's position simply because external ***** reports were received. The transactions included R1,000 and R36,500 transferred from my own Nedbank account into my own Standard Bank account, as well as R38,800 relating to the sale of my own USDT, for which I provided supporting information. I repeatedly asked for a proper explanation of what evidence actually links me personally to ********** activity. Instead, I was essentially told that the ***** reports existed and that I should take the matter up with Nedbank. That is not the transparency or independent investigation I expected from an Ombud. If you are going to accept that I did not commit *****, then you should also properly scrutinise the basis on which I was subjected to these serious consequences. A ***** report is an allegation; it should not simply become the conclusion. I am extremely dissatisfied with the way this matter has been handled and will now consider taking the matter further with legal assistance. I will not simply accept a process where my concerns and evidence are dismissed without proper answers.
