Poor service

Today, I experienced the worst service ever at Nandos in Sandton City Mall. I was really looking forward to enjoy a good meal and have a great experience. After I ordered, I found a table and waited for my favourite chicken meal in town to be served. So the waitron then brings my meal that was very well prepared. I then informed her that I ordered a roll with cheese. Firstly, she didn't believe me so I had to stand up and show her that this is what I ordered on the slip that she held in her hand. So apparently the teller didn't add the roll to my bill but I then fork out R10 to pay for this separately. this is what went done - Firstly, the teller got my order wrong - I specifically asked for a roll with cheese but he rang up a slice of cheese (first absurd) - why would I order a slice of cheese to eat with a quarter chicken meal duh! The waiter then goes back to the kicthen and serves a roll with a dry piece of cheese on a side plate. Second absurd - Why would I eat a dry roll with unmelted cheese with my favourite chicken? The waiter then apologises as I ask her to please melt the cheese and dash it into a warm roll. She then goes ahead to the chicken and prepares this for me which I was really grateful for. So all of the above I ignored, made a promise to myself not to be a rude fool like most other people would have done if this happened to them. So I pretty much let all of the above slide as it was a minor issue and I refrain from complaining especially when food is involved.

So, I then enjoy my lovely meal. The waiter then collects the cutlery and clears the table without even asking if she can proceed with doing so. She could've cleared the table so quickly to make way for other customers but this was fairly early on a Friday so the restaurant had many open tables. But well done to her for cleaning up so quickly - others might call this service efficiency while others will see it as a nice way of telling you to Get Out now that you have paid and finished your food without even having properly digested for five minutes at least. I then take one sip of my drink. But at this point, I realised that something bad might just happen again before I actually leave the restaurant.

I then proceed to the hand wash basin to clean my hands leaving my drink on the table obviously as I cant this with me. While I'm at the wash basin another waiter then apparently removes the drink from my table and trashes it which was more than 70% full - this is according to the waitron who first brought my meal from the kitchen. Shame man, this very innocent nice looking lady also probably just wanted to ensure that the tables are clean -in the name of service efficiency - at all times for the next customer to use. But then again, surely she could've asked somebody or her colleagues before she trashed the drink?

So I then ask her to give me another drink because that drink was 70% full but she is hesitant and speaks to an Indian lady who I assume is the manager. So this lady then walks up to me with a very serious looking face - at that moment I realise that the middle-aged white male who always rocked a big smile wasn't around. Anyway, she then informs me in a vert assertive manner that she will only replace my drink for today - effectively telling me that it's MY fault for leaving the drink on the table - WOW. I then decided to walk out before said anything further. I mean com on now, I just asked to replace a drink that is worth a mere R12 or less.

To sum it up, the entire experience was really bad, from the teller, the waiter, the second waiter and then the manager. Is the store under new management? Ah well, change and providing opportunities to others is generally great for society. But this shouldnt affect be done at the expense of the customers experience.

PS. Please note that I don't want a free meal as an apology. I just thought that I should let you know for your own sake!

Cheers

Dissapointed loyal Nandos Sandton patron.

There's more to Nando's than delicious PERi-PERi chicken. Although that's a big part of it, we also like to ruffle our feathers about the exceptional experience we create on the whole at our restaurants across South Africa and the world.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback to us through the Hello Peter website. We do apologise for the delay in response, due to a technical error. Any comments we receive, both good and bad, give us the opportunity to improve the quality of our service so that it meets both our high standards and our customers' expectations.

We have directed your feedback onto the relevant team who will get back to you in two shakes of a chicken's tail.

PERi-PERily yours,

The Nando's customer care team
