Halal Certificate for Bellville not valid due to actions by staff
Hi,
After visiting Nando's Bellville (Durban Road) on Sunday, 13 May 2018, I felt betrayed and disgusted at the attitude of the staff.
While waiting for my food, I noticed a lady (customer) handing a blue personal bowl to the waiter that was busy prepping food for another customers (possibly a Muslim client, as this Nando's is certified Halal). The lady asked the waiter to warm some food she brought from home in her blue bowl. The waiter then took the food and warmed it in the Nando's "Halaal" microwave. I then confronted another waiter and asked about their policy as the certification would not be valid if this is allowed. She then rep**** by saying it's not the 1st time, they do this all the time.
I could not believe what I heard, and asked to speak to the manager.I explained to her what happened and she said she is aware, but it was the customer that asked. I then asked her if she knew what Halal is and the contamination principles? She said she knows, they themselves (waiters) are not allowed to bring their own food in because of it not being Halal.
I then said, I'm not allowed to bring my own cool drink or juice into the restaurant, but another customer can bring other food and have it warmed in the Nando's microwave. There is a variety of food to choose from, everything from vegetables for babies, kiddies meals for kids, and a variety of flavors for young and old. No other food should be allowed on the premises. Please check the cameras from 12:00 midday, as I believe I was there just after 12:00.
Would appreciate if Nando's can please explain why this certificate is not taken serious, as this is not fair to the poor customer that was possibly served with contaminated food.
