My World is extremely disappointed and saddened by this review as it is not an accurate description of what actually happened. My World is a very family-orientated business that has a hard-earned reputation for excellent care of our children and openness with our parents. Ordinarily, we would never comment publicly on any aspect of our relationship with any of our parents and their children who attend, or have attended My World. However, owing to the seriousness of the false allegations made in this review, we feel that we have no alternative but to give our side of the story and to set the record straight.
It is correct that My World asks parents to sign an indemnity form and a contract when joining My World. Both documents are standard and both will be found at most educational institutions. Both documents are given to parents to read and parents are given an opportunity to ask any questions prior to signing the documents. However, our indemnity form in no way absolves us from the responsibility for the well-being and care of our children. This is a responsibility that we have always taken very seriously and continue to do so. We have hundreds of past and current parents who will confirm this.
The child in question was very happy in our school and thrived in our care, which included a staff member being devoted to her care at all times. We find the accusation about the child being bitten very hard to believe as this was never raised with the principal or other member of staff. The first time we have heard of this is in the review. The child was in a one-on-one setting throughout her time with us, in the care of a trained educator, monitored closely by the school principal and we would have known if the child was bitten. There is no way that the principal would ever respond to a serious concern like this in such a callous manner. We have a very firm accident policy in place at the school and hold our staff to the highest standards possible in ensuring that every child at My World is closely monitored, loved and cared for throughout their days with us. Again, hundreds of past and current parents will confirm this.
The changes in the child’s sleeping patterns were also never raised with the school. The first time we have heard of this is in the review. Sleep is an area of development that we are always happy to discuss with our parents as it is a vital part of a child’s growth and development. It is hard for us to reconcile this allegation with our experience of the child. During her time with us, the child was loved and given the very best care at My World, she ate beautifully, slept easily and thoroughly enjoyed her games and the stimulating activities presented to her each day. The mother complimented the school both personally and on the Facebook page on numerous occasions throughout her child’s time with us.
My World is aware of an incident during March 2019 in which the mother alleged that there was a bruise on her child. The existence of the bruise was communicated to the school on a Saturday morning via a text message containing a photo of the bruise with the caption “you can’t see anything in the photo, but it is there”. However, on the day before (when the child supposedly got the bruise), she was collected from the school by her mother who spent a long time in the classroom playing with her and then happily left the school. We would have expected that if there was a bruise (or a “huge mark” as the mother claims) the mother would have immediately noticed that and reported it to us before leaving the school. Despite it appearing that there was not a bruise at all, let alone a “huge mark”, My World always takes allegations of this nature seriously and conducted an extensive investigation. We could not find any evidence of there being an incident that occurred at the school which could have resulted in a bruise. After numerous attempts to discuss this with the mother telephonically and in person, we were then told by the mother that she would keep her child home for the winter and send her back later in the year. At that point, we drew the mother’s attention to the terms of our contract which provide that a parent is liable to pay a notice period which is the equivalent of three months school fees in the event that they voluntarily withdraw their child from My World. As we felt that we were not to blame for the child being withdrawn, we communicated to the mother that we expected this part of the contract to be honoured. We must also point out that we do not have clauses of this nature in our contract because we are “greedy”. We have salaries and other costs to pay and would find it difficult to survive if children could be withdrawn immediately, at any time and without notice. Again, this type of clause is not unusual and will be found in almost all nursery school contracts.
It is correct that My World threatened this individual with legal action. However, this threat was made only in response to a lawyer’s letter which we received on behalf of this individual in which she demanded a refund of her school fees and threatened to give My World bad publicity if we did not pay her. We cannot help but feel that this review is retaliation for us refusing to pay her when we felt that we were not in the wrong and had taken all reasonable steps to attempt to resolve this matter in a friendly manner.
