Disappointing warranty experience - claim rejected without proper investigation
Extremely disappointing warranty experience. I am extremely disappointed with MVIA and the way my warranty claim has been handled.
I submitted a claim for a faulty fuel level sender on my 2020 Volkswagen Polo. The claim was rejected because MVIA says the “Fuel Level Sender Unit” is not a covered component.
What is particularly frustrating is that their own policy states that mechanical and electrical fuel pumps are covered, while they have simply classified the component as an excluded “fuel gauge” without, in my view, properly establishing the technical relationship between the fuel level sender and the fuel pump assembly fitted to my vehicle.
What concerns me even more is that the vehicle was actually inspected and diagnosed by a professional repairer. If MVIA had any uncer*****y about what component had failed or how that component forms part of the vehicle’s fuel system, the obvious thing would have been to contact the repairer for clarification before rejecting the claim.
Instead, I received a rejection based on the description “Fuel Level Sender Unit.”
I find this extremely disappointing. I pay for a mechanical warranty expecting that when a mechanical/electrical component fails, the claim will be assessed properly and fairly. I should not have to educate a warranty company about the components fitted to my own vehicle or fight simply to have the actual technical facts established.
MVIA’s own rejection letter says that additional information can be submitted for reassessment. I have therefore challenged the decision and requested that they properly engage with the repairing workshop and provide the technical and contractual basis for their decision.
At this stage, I am extremely dissatisfied with the manner in which my claim has been handled. If MVIA refuses to properly reconsider the matter, I will be taking the appropriate further steps, including obtaining legal advice and escalating the complaint through the relevant channels.
Potential customers: read the terms of your warranty very carefully and don’t assume that paying for cover means your claim will automatically be handled fairly when something goes wrong.
I sincerely hope MVIA proves me wrong and resolves this matter properly. But based on my experience so far, I cannot recommend them.
