Claim Rejection – Avoid This Company
<div>I have been paying for a motor vehicle warranty with MVIA for years, covering all major components of my car, including the clutch. Recently, the clutch on my vehicle failed suddenly, well within its expected lifespan.
The repair centre submitted a full report and photographs to MVIA, yet for days I only received vague, repetitive updates that the claim was “in process.” When feedback finally came, MVIA rejected the claim on the grounds of “wear and tear.”
This is unacceptable for several reasons:
My policy explicitly lists the clutch as covered for sudden and unforeseen mechanical breakdowns.
The part failed prematurely, not due to normal end-of-life wear.
MVIA never contacted the repair centre to clarify the extent of wear or cause of failure — the rejection was based on assumption, not proper investigation.
Their interpretation of “wear and tear” would allow them to deny almost any claim, making their coverage meaningless.
I have honoured my side of the agreement by paying premiums on time for years. They have not honoured theirs. This feels like a deliberate loophole to avoid paying valid claims. I will be escalating this matter to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA) and other relevant authorities.
Potential customers should be aware that you may find yourself paying for “full coverage” that is not honoured when you need it most.
I have been without a car for almost 2 weeks now, with no end in sight to this nightmare.</div>

They then informed me that if I was unhappy with the decision, I would need to email their complaints department so they could “assess it again.”
I contacted the service centre for a more detailed report, and in that report, they clearly state: “mechanical failure of pressure plate.” I sent this updated report and all relevant details to the complaints department — and they rejected the claim again.
Even if one were to argue that the failure was due to wear and tear, my policy clearly states: “Wear & Tear is not covered, however failure as a result of Wear & Tear is covered up to 50% of the component limit or 50% of the claim, whichever is the lesser.” This means that even under their own interpretation, they are contractually obliged to pay at least 50% of the claim. Instead, they are refusing to pay anything.
When they called me, they also claimed they could not cover the stripping fee. Yet, my policy explicitly allocates R4,000 for stripping.
I have now submitted a formal complaint with the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA) and will be cancelling my policy with MVIA after this experience.
