Why Must I Pay Towing Fees?
The car was a write-off and it was not possible to drive away from the accident, after a client of Mutual and Federal, driving towards me from the front left, turned right and rammed into the front, while I was stationary behind a stop sign. The driver acknowledged his liability and agreed in front of an ambulance driver that she could call a towing company. I received a calculated average offer which was 40% less than any written quotes for repairs. Then I was also asked to pay the towing fees.
The account for towing was sent directly to Mutual& Federal in time for a response, if they wished to decline because they preferred to pay all costs to me, but they did not respond to the tow truck operator until after I had accepted the sum offered for the write-off, acting on the information that it was a standard calculated book value and I should just accept it, and on information from Auto Repairs that they would invoice the insurer directly and then that they already had done so and were awaiting payment. But the amount falls short of any standard acceptable offer, as I still had to pay r2400 in towing fees after M&F declined to pay Auto Repairs & towing, which they did only after we had signed the agreement.
That seems completely unfair.
