Ominsure - Disgusting service and *******

I have never before experienced such incompetence, deceit and *******ion from an organisation like Ominsure. Ominsure are an embarrassment to the Insurance industry they represent and I would advise anyone to look elsewhere for their insurance.

In January 2020, I experienced significant storm damage to my home in JHB and followed up with an insurance claim and the corresponding documentation as requested by Ominsure. Ominsure then went out of their way to avoid answering my calls or replying to my emails when I followed up, constantly making excuses that they had not received my emails or had tried to call my mobile number with no answer. This went on for months with multiple individuals from Ominsure involved.

This seems to be a common tactic of Ominsure’s if you read the other comments made by users on HelloPeter. To add further insult, the initial appointed ‘external’ assessor from XTND then made an assessment without contacting the Building contractor or physically inspecting the repairs. Ominsure, then took it upon themselves to remove key phrases from the Building contractors report mentioning the weather damage and claimed that it was because of bad design and maintenance and that they were rejecting my claim. Some would call this *****.

After complaining to Ominsure, and pointing out that they had not completed a fair and honest assessment, I was then appointed a second ‘in-house’ assessor. The second assessment went no better than the first, but at least this time they physically inspected the repairs, but once again they have ignored the Building contractors report and have still not contacted the Building contractor who can explain the repairs and costings. The excuse now, after 5 months, it that the damages are not covered by the policy and they are once again blaming bad design and maintenance and are only willing to pay R3000 out of a R118 000 claim.

Avoid OMinsure at all costs!

Update to the Public. I received a ‘private’ reply to my review on HelloPeter + Facebook from OMInsure to let me know that a representative would be in contact with me shortly to discuss my complaint. Ominsure are obviously too ashamed to play this out in a public forum. Needless to say, 2 x days later I get an email to say they, Omnisure, are maintaining their stance and rejecting my claim and that if I wish to refer the matter for internal arbitration and include an Ombudsman to please go ahead and do so. No call to discuss the complaint with me and still they have not contacted the building contractor to discuss the repairs and costing.
Avoid this nasty corporation at all costs and take your business elsewhere. Ominsure are a complete waste of your time and money.

Further Update to the Public: Ominsure removed my review on HelloPeter due to me naming and shaming the individuals involved. The tactics of this corporation do not fail to surprise me anymore after 5 months of dealing with them regarding my claim. Avoid them at all costs. You have been warned.

Dear Mr. Bergset  Thank you for raising your complaint again, as communicated to you previously that we maintain our stance and our decision is final. Some of the reasons being that your claim occurred on the 08/01/2020. We only received notification of this claim 30/03/2020 more than two months later. The quote is then dated on the 15/01/2020 and the invoice for the work done is then 16/01/2020. The invoice also includes general maintenance work such as water proofing to name one along with others, which falls wide of your insurance cover. The rejection letter will have all the details, as previously advised if you are still dissatisfied with the outcome please feel free to contact our internal arbitrator or the ombudsman for short term insurance whose details we have shared with you, as these are the platforms best suited to deal with dispute matters.  Kind Regards

I think you should check your records once again. You received notification of the claim a couple of weeks after the incident once quotes for repairs had been received. You then took nearly 2 months to reply after constant follow ups from both myself and the brokers. This is what I'm complaining about. There were no ‘general maintenance works’ but you would know this if you had actually bothered to contact the building contractor, which you still have NOT done.

Update to the Public. My claim was sent to Internal arbitration, and again, after NOT contacting the builder who assessed and repaired the damage, nor myself for that matter, they have decided to reject my claim based on incomplete and false information provided by the very staff & department I’m complaining about. ******* to the core is Old Mutual Insure. Avoid this company at all costs and take your business elsewhere.
