Old Mutual's Secret Strategy to a Botched Insurance Job: How Their 'Dispute Specialist' Took So Long, My Entire Property Was Sold Before They Even Responded!
A Nightmare of Neglect: Old Mutual and BetterSure Fail at Every Turn
My experience with Old Mutual and BetterSure has been nothing short of frustrating and infuriating. Their so-called "dispute specialist," Vuyiwe Makohliso, took so long to address an issue that the entire property sale process was completed—from listing the property for sale to multiple offers through to a successful registration of the sale—before I even got a response! And when I finally did hear back, they had the audacity to ask me to prove that BetterSure was responsible for the shoddy roof leak repairs. Let me repeat that: I had to prove their own contractor’s incompetence.
This seems like an excellent strategy on Old Mutual's part—delay action so long that the matter fades away, all while they conveniently sidestep responsibility for the poor workmanship. Meanwhile, they continue to take monthly payments without a hitch. Bravo, Old Mutual, for making the customer do your job for you.
And it doesn't end there. At another property, BetterSure's contractors were tasked with repairing a geyser but left the roof tiles off just before the rainy season. It was only thanks to the kindness of my electrician—who happened to be at the property and fixed it out of goodwill—that further damage was avoided. Not a word from Old Mutual or BetterSure about their glaring negligence. And if history is any guide, I'm sure Vuyiwe Makohliso will once again require me to somehow prove, possibly via a video call from the past using a time machine, that it was indeed their contractors who failed to complete the job.
In the end, it’s clear: Old Mutual and BetterSure excel at taking monthly payments on time but are utterly incapable of accepting responsibility for their contractors' mistakes. They’ve mastered the art of dodging accountability, leaving their customers to pick up the pieces—literally and figuratively.
