Old Mutual wont pay out Damage Claims due to Loadshedding

On 11 Feb 2024 my fridge broke down right after stage 6 loadshedding. I have it covered at Old Mutual for this purpose. I informed Old Mutual & was advised to get a repair agent to provide a damage report for claim purposes. The call out fee was R650-00 which i had to pay. After i submitted the report i was told that claims dept rejected the report and they will send Digicall for another report. On Wednesday, 13 Feb. 2024 they did the inspection and in the mean time i had to cancel a function at my house planned for the weekend as i had no fridge and lost loads of food. I finally received feedback on Monday, 19 Feb 2024 where my claim was, with no surprise, rejected. Ofcourse they sent their own people, Digicall, knowing that they would not have to pay a cent as how can I question their damage report outcome. suddenly my fridge had a gas leak. Really? i would have been dead if that was it!! then also its wear and tear. 3 people told me that they were not going to pay out but now i have to pay for call out that was unnecessary and i am taking my business elsewhere. they knew from day 1 they were going to reject my claim (you must pay every month but when it comes to claims, they are full of ****). I had to make a loan now to replace my fridge. I am cancelling my insurance which includes my 3 vehicles, life and home policies as well as home content policy. I fear the day I have to claim for, God forbid, a vehicle - I suppose I will have to buy another vehicle instead. I am so disappointed in Old Mutual as this was my first claim ever. I actually got a second opinion who also confirmed that my compressor, termostat and overload switch broke down due to constant loadshedding. Thank you Old Mutual for costing me call out fees, boxes and boxes of ice to keep food fresh and having to cancel my husbands birthday party.
