old mutual insure

I have an Old Mutual life policy which was linked to disability policy. In 2008 I had to stop working due to Multiple Sclerosis, more specifically the acute cognitive and depression disorders that are brought on by MS, I was no longer to perform my duties as senior GM at a big multinational motor manufacturer. I claimed for disability subsidy from Old Mutual Green-light which should have been 75% of my gross salary. After approving my claim, Old Mutual then withdrew their approval. After months of argument and input from the ombudsman, they agreed to pay about 50% of what I was insured for. Verbally they threatened that if I took the case to court, they would withdraw payment completely. Suffering from severe cognitive disability, I accepted their decision as I was not in a mental state to fully appreciate the long term implications. . Now, 12 years later my new financial advisor has pointed out that although their payment was sufficient to live on, it did not allow me to provide for my pension. This means that my pension is fixed at the level it was at age 52 years. To add insult to injury, it now seems that payment will be stopped nine months before my retirement age of 65. To help me to keep going financially, I am now forced to sell my family home. I have also reduced my Old Mutual life insurance and will probably have to stop it soon due to affordability. I was always a career oriented person, and my work was my passion. Whilst I had to accept that getting an incurable disease forced me to stop working, I cannot accept that Old Mutual could multiply the distress by forcing me to accept a lot less than I was insured for. I just wish that I was in a position to share my plight and that others wont be hooked into signing up with an insurer that does not fulfill their part of a contract.
