We had hail damage on 20 October 2024. The claim was loaded on 25 October 2024. The assessor came out 30 October 2024 and then nothing. After phoning and not getting hold of the right people we finally got reaction end of November. The assesor felt the quote was too expensive. He is sending out another company and also a quantity surveyor (going to try everything to not pay out). Obviously the quantity surveyor had bad news, no, we were not under unsured. And so the nightmare begins. 18 December 2024 the contractor pitches up. Minus the cupboard that needs replacing and they know nothing about insulation that needs to be replaced. After 2 hours of phoning we now get 50mm insulation (although we had 135mm installed prior to the damage). Our plastered ceiling got replaced with 6mm board in stead of 9mm board (I see a trend here. This is why the second contractor was sent out. He was willing to install sub standard). Skim plastering on 6mm board results in the most wonderful wavy ceiling. Just what I always wanted. It is wet, we understand. The plastered ceiling did not dry by the Saturday (21 December 2024), and we were promised that the contractor would come on Monday to finish the painting. We removed everything, prepped everything and on Monday (23 December 2024) nobody arrived. Do you truly belive they will arrive on the 24th of December as promised and finish up? I think not.

Old Mutal is the worst insurance company I have ever had to deal with. This is not the first time we have to pay extra to install to the same quality we had and we were insured for. And even after we checked and warned multiple times that the time of year would bring problems, we were assured no issues would arise. Unfortunately, as predicted, the work is going to stand half done from before Christmas until after the New year, because Old Mutual could not handle a claim in a reasonable amount of time.

And my kitchen cupboard that swelled due to water damage and then started growing black mould? I am guessing that one will be for my pocket because feedback for that one is impossible to find.e
