Damage done by contractor not their problem?
During a large storm in November 2014 a number of tiles were ripped of my roof. I contacted my home insurance broker to inquire if this would be covered as part of my policy. A query was logged, an assessor was sent to my home and I later received a request to pay an excess amount. The excess was paid and the work commenced.
The resultant work that was done on my roof was not only sub-standard but has left me in a worse position than before I sent the request to Mutual and Federal. I have now been waiting for the past 7 months for the issue to be resolved. The latest response from Mutual and Federal is that the damages are maintenance related which is not covered in terms of the policy. Mutual and Federal have refused to accept any accountability for the work done by the contractor they assigned and I am now in a position where it will cost me more money to repair the damage the contractor has done than it would have cost to do the repair myself in the first place.
