Complaints catch 22: accept payment proposed before you can comlain about it

Mutual & Federal won't entertain my complaint about the amount they want to pay me for storm damage (less than half the actual cost) unless I accept that amount first "in full and final settlement of all claims of whatever nature arising out of Storm damage"!

Once I sign they can say I have accepted the low amount so what is my problem!

Also it has taken us 5 weeks to even get to this stage as they never reply to specific issues raised.

So M&F finally reply to my complaint months afterwards. To say they cannot find the complaint: I gave the reference number in the private communication section. This does not surprise me, part of their endless delaying tactics. I also see they are now changing their name to Old Mutual Insure, probably because the brand Mutual and Federal is so poisoned. Of course they need to deal with the underlying causes and not just try another cosmetic fix.

We are way past that: the issue is now in the hands of the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance.

I wish you had a negative star rating for me to give them!

Just for the record the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance (OSTI) is on the side of industry. They take forever to respond, allow the company months to come up with their stories while we have 2 weeks to reply. The process is dragged out for months and finally the company can make any assertions they like. I gave up after 8 months. That was no doubt the idea!
