********* claim handling
I filed a claim for damages arising from leaks in adjacent apartments, but OMI seems to be failing in their duty to provide effective coverage and post-sale support.
The broker acknowledged additional damages that were not part of the initial assessment, such as damage to cupboards and wall paint. However, the settlement appears to have been calculated in a way that avoids any payout.
The assessment reveals a deduction of R3000 as an excess, which is not accounted for in the originally calculated R10,000 excess specific to my case. This discrepancy arises because the damages covered by the excess are not listed in the assessment.
As a policyholder, I find myself dealing with damages resulting from leaks in two neighboring units, particularly the need to replace my unit's floors, which is financially burdensome. Curiously, OMI is willing to cover repairs for cupboards that weren't even included in the assessed damages. The excess for cupboard repairs is mentioned in the assessment, but the corresponding damages are absent.
I've made several inquiries regarding this matter, reaching out to Vusumuzi Zimba, a national team leader, via calls and emails. Despite clearly articulating my concerns and requesting a comprehensive assessment report, he has ceased to respond to my communication. This lack of responsiveness leads me to suspect that OMI is prioritizing profit over fulfilling their obligations as an insurer.
